    Skincare Secrets 🤫

    All right! So, I have been asked this question innumerable times from so many people! Throughout my journey as a schoolgirl, college diva, beauty queen to being a mum recently;  this question has been following me everywhere I go: “What do you use for such luminous beautiful skin?”  Well, I have answered every single one of them at times. To your surprise, I’ve been asked by males too. Well, I believe self-care shouldn’t be gender-biased. But if you’re in disbelief then here you go:

    Ready to unveil the Golden Skin Secrets with me!

    1. Least Make-up Mayhem

    This is, of course, a No-brainer. The fewer products you use on your skin the healthier it will be. If you have healthy skin to flaunt; you don’t need makeup to cover up anything!  Do you? I wear makeup occasionally only. I do not wear any makeup in my everyday life; although I am a big Kohl fan so I apply organic kohl on both my upper and lower waterlines on most of the days. It’s indeed an Indian thing that I’ve been following for years and years. Trust me your eyes would pop out in the most expressive way.  On the top, makeup does significant damage to your skin with its usage over the years. So, be brave, avoid makeup as much as you can; let your skin breath, bask a little in the sun. Plus it will save you heaps of time and money which you can invest in a more productive way!

       2.   Stick to the Skin-Products

    As we all know every skin is different. Particular skin-product work and affect in a different way on a particular skintype. And Skin-product business being a lucrative genre of business, there are heaps of products luring you to try and to buy them. But trust me you don’t have to try most of them and turn your precious skin into guineapig. When you try various products in a very short time-span you irritate your skin with the amalgamation and reaction of various sets of ingredients. So, when you know that one particular product suits your skin superbly; you stick to it for a long time. Of course, keep yourself open to try a better skin-product but not like there’s no tomorrow. I have been using Olay Moisturiser as my day moisturiser for over a decade now.

       3. Natural Treasure

    As I said earlier there’s a hoard of skin-care products out there in the market. And all types of products! Which ones to choose? I would simply say Natural/Organic products with no harmful chemicals of course. But as a matter of fact, there are heaps of brands who market their products as Natural but it still contains those not so needed chemicals. So, this is how you choose the best natural products for yourself:

    1. Read the labels. – Yes, it’s all there. If it’s coded in numbers then decode it on Google. Learn and educate yourself about harmful ingredients and make a smart decision for yourself.
    2. Look for : No Sulphates, No Paraben, No Artificial Fragrance, No Chemicals, No Petrochemicals, No Phenoxyethanol, No Silicones, No PABA (Para-aminobenzoic Acid, No Propylene Glycol,  No Polythelene Glycol, Natural, Herbal,  Naturally Derived, Organic.

    I know it’s too much fuss. But trust me it’s worth it. On the contrary, some products ought to have some of the chemicals: Like my Sunblock; it says it’s natural but it’s not (thoroughly). And about my day moisturiser Olay. Well, I’ve been looking for a natural alternative to that for quite a some time now. Let’s see what happens.

        4. Sunblock is Bae

    I know you’d say, “Sonal, we already know it.” But do you actually follow it? I know so many of you only consider wearing sunblock on a sunny day or when your’e heading to the beach. But truth to be told:  You’ve got to wear sunblock every day of the year, come rain or shine. “Ultraviolet rays that are the cause of sun damage and skin cancer are always present,” explains Dr. Shilesh Iyer, M.D., a Board Certified dermatologist with the renown New York Dermatology Group. “They are independent of cold or hot weather, and are not blocked by clouds. On overcast days, only visible rays (but not UVB rays) from the sun are blocked. The best way to protect the skin is with sun protection.”

    But what factors to look for while choosing a good sunblock:

    Sun protection factor (SPF): SPF baically stands for the level of protection it rpovides against the sun. A minimum of SPF 15 or 30 is recommended for everyday wear. It’s highly  important to wear SPF 50+ and reapply it especially when your’e in the sun as the product label indicates.

    Broad spectrum: Ideal sublock should be labeled as broad spectrum, which means the product will cover shield against UVA and UVB rays.

    Water resistant:  If you’re out and about this factor is super-important. This indicates that the product will protect the skin in water for a particular duration of time as indicated on the product label.

        5 Routine Roulette

    I know the word routine itself sounds so boring but in some insatance it may benefit you incredibally! Make a daily Skin-care routine for yourself:

    Cleanising, Moisturising, Sunblock followed by anything extra you’d like to go on the top with at the start of the day. And at the night time exactly the same routine minus the Extra products and Sunblock. And if you think you live in an environment that piles up too much dirt on your skin at the end of the day, you can use exfoliating Cleanser or a mild scrub at night in that case. Also, you can opt for a light, breathable moisturiser or oil at night, so that your skin can breath and take rest as you do as night.

    Daily Skin-care routine is great but now you gotta elevate your game and follow this weekly or fortnightly routine and you’ll be rewarded in wondorous ways: For example I used to have this Monthly routine B.M. (Before Mishri; my 10 months old) ( Routine is almost a foreign word for me now as a busy mum and boss) I used to make sure I Scrub and mask at least once a month (considering my super-busy life ) But you totally should go for once a week.

    So, those were some Golden Skin Secret I wanted to share with you guys! and there’s this ‘Platinum not so secret’: Hydration

    Keep hydrating yourself throughout the day no matter how busy you are! ( If your’e a mum to a toddler, I feel ya!) Have you ever seen how wilted flowers rejuvenate in an instant when watered?  The same way water makes your skin look and feel beautiful.

    Ultimately, it comes down to this Main Mantra to healthy skin:

    Your skin believes in Tit for Tat. It will treat you back the same way you will treat it. So, priortise yourself, your skin. Take care of it, make concious choices for it, and see how all these care and cautions turn into innumerable compliments from everyone around you (even from strangers)! Aaah so rewarding!
